This site is dedicated to the memory of Gary

Gary was born on March 23rd 1958, to John and Rose Lewis. Gary also has a brother Des. He was an avid Chelsea Fan but became an honorary Spurs fan in January 2016.

Gary was an active member of Unite and previously active in Amicus and MSF.  He took on various roles within the union, as departmental rep and played an important role in negotiations on many issues as well as supporting members in individual casework.

He was loved by many within the NUT and wider trade union movement.

Gary joined the NUT in 1997. He was a Principal Officer in the NUTs Communications department.
Gary made a huge contribution to the NUT. His flexible and innovative organisational skills were apparent immediately. He became indispensable and filled many roles before being permanently appointed. The success of the Union's campaigns owed much to Gary's organisational and administrative skills. The work that goes on, literally "behind the scenes", tends to be invisible when it works well; Gary's hand in  industrial action, demonstrations, marches, political party conferences, education exhibitions and other campaigning activities  was as indeed as imperceptible as it was effective.
His expertise was invaluable and he was highly respected by all. More recently following an organisation re-structure, Gary joined the recruitment and training team where he continued to contribute to the NUTs core objectives.

Gary was a true trade unionist and stood up for trade union values at every opportunity, such as pay and conditions, pension and so on.  He was a proud member of the Labour Party and was committed to the wider Labour movement.

An end of an era with his passing but he will live on in our memories of him.
